Food packaging, glorious food packaging
I love good food, I love good design and I love good ideas, when I see all three being combined I’m a happy chappy!
Food packaging can be, and should be, more than just a container that is discarded after the contents are gone. With a bit of thought the packaging can be used to grab a shopper’s attention, encourage purchase, and ensure brand loyalty.
Take Innocent for example, it would just be another juice without the clever copy and the fun design.

In some cases the packaging can even become a collector’s item, keeping a brand in sight long after the food has been consumed.
While we might argue that we may not purchase a product based on its packaging design alone, one cannot deny that it attracts our attention and whets our appetite. So, without further a do, why not feast your eyes on some of these other great examples…
First up, a nice bit of packaging for the Swiss based food retailer Migros. The clean and simple design is offset nicely by the use of die cutting.

Another clean and simple design out of polish design studio Ah&Oh this time for Babees pure organic honey.

The Japanese artist Naoto Fukasawa has created these cool juice boxes – they get the juices flowing in more ways than one!

From juice to jumpers with some great concept work for Nusa Kitchen to promote their handmade seasonal soups dubbed ‘The Winter Collection’.

Taiwan based TK food’s innovative packaging for their pineapple pastry using the shape of a pineapple as the inspiration for the design. Sometimes the most obvious ideas are the best.

Another simple idea, this time a transparent window that shows how much Cola is left in the cup and also at the same time reinforcing a bit of the brand heritage by turning the plastic cup into a ‘bottle’.

A cheeky little idea by the Danish bakery Kohberg. They packaged their Rugbrodsboller (rye bread buns) in a suggestive pink bra-like bag as a way to fund breast cancer research. Part of the proceeds from the sale of Rugbrodsboler benefits the Danish cancer society.

And finally… Eggs and soldiers. A simple design and lovely play on words. 15p from every pack of Eggs for Soldiers will be donated to Help for Heroes. The egg/toast medal is a nice subtle touch too.

Share.
