The Net Zero Technology Centre exists to accelerate the transition to a net zero future through technology innovation. Bringing together startups, investors, industry leaders, academia and government, it plays a pivotal role in developing and commercialising the technologies shaping tomorrow’s energy landscape.
The challenge was to redesign the website around those diverse audiences. The existing experience felt corporate and difficult to navigate, making it harder for users to discover opportunities, technologies and content relevant to them. We set out to create a platform that reflected the organisation’s role as an innovation leader while making complex information easier to explore and act upon.
The heartbeat
No two visitors arrive with the same objective. Some are looking for funding. Others want to invest, collaborate, commercialise technology or simply understand the role innovation plays in achieving net zero. Instead of expecting users to navigate a complex website alone, we designed an experience that adapts to their needs.
A guided discovery journey helps visitors quickly identify relevant content, while a flexible card-based content system surfaces projects, insights, technologies and opportunities without overwhelming them. Bespoke iconography, motion graphics and animation reinforce the Centre’s technology-led identity, reducing reliance on generic imagery while creating a distinctive visual language inspired by its network and innovation ecosystem.
Behind the experience sits a modern WordPress platform with deep Microsoft Dynamics integration, allowing projects, case studies and CRM data to synchronise automatically while giving the internal team greater flexibility to manage and evolve the website independently.
The impact
The website provides the Net Zero Technology Centre with a digital platform that reflects its ambition and influence within the global energy transition. Clear user journeys, flexible content management and intelligent integrations have created a resource that supports collaboration between startups, investors, researchers and industry partners while making complex innovation more accessible.
The project has received widespread positive feedback across the organisation and was nominated for B2B Website of the Year, recognising the strength of both the user experience and the digital strategy. Today, the platform continues to evolve alongside the Centre’s mission, supporting new programmes, technologies and partnerships as the journey to net zero accelerates.
