Puccino’s food and drink ecommerce UX and website design

Your favourite coffee delivered to your door.

When Britain's commuters stayed at home, their favourite coffee had to find a new way to reach them.

For more than 25 years, Puccino’s has been part of the daily routine for thousands of rail commuters across London and the South East. Then, almost overnight, stations emptied, shutters came down and that familiar morning coffee was suddenly out of reach.

The challenge wasn’t to reinvent the brand. It was to recreate the same quality, warmth and simplicity people expected in-store, this time through an ecommerce experience delivered to their front door.

Heartbeat
Buying coffee should feel as effortless as ordering one at the counter. Rather than treating ecommerce as an add-on, we integrated it seamlessly into the existing website, ensuring the online journey felt like a natural extension of the Puccino’s brand. Rich product pages celebrated the story behind every roast, from bean origins to brewing methods, while bold category colours, intuitive filtering and quick-add functionality reduced friction for returning customers who simply wanted to restock their favourites.

The result wasn’t an online catalogue. It was a digital coffee shop, designed to give customers as much inspiration or as little interruption as they wanted.

Impact
The new ecommerce platform allowed Puccino’s to continue serving loyal customers long after they stopped passing through railway stations. By extending the in-store experience into a simple, engaging online shop, the brand created a new revenue stream during one of the most challenging periods the hospitality industry has faced.

Today, customers can enjoy the same coffee, hot chocolate and iconic Stupid Little Biscuits wherever they are, helping Puccino’s strengthen its relationship with customers beyond the daily commute.

Putting user experience first.

When designing the ecommerce platform we always maintained a user experience strategy. We wanted to make the customer’s experience of the website when purchasing the Puccino’s products as seamless and simple as possible.

On the product listing page we used bright and bold colours to categorise products as well as entice the customer, a simple filtering system so customers could segment or get to a specific product as easily as possible and added a quick add to basket button, enabling customers, especially if it is a repeat purchase, to efficiently get to the checkout stage.
