Thames Valley Air Ambulance delivers hospital-level critical care to people across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, often in the most challenging circumstances imaginable. As the charity evolved into an independent healthcare provider, its website needed to evolve too, becoming far more than a place to donate.
Our brief was to create a digital platform that could support every part of the organisation, helping people understand its life-saving work, encouraging community support and making it easier for patients, families, volunteers and fundraisers to find the information they needed.
Heartbeat
Not everyone arrives for the same reason – some people want to make a donation, others need support after a traumatic incident, some are looking to volunteer, attend an event or simply understand how the charity operates.
Designing for all of those audiences meant resisting the temptation to tell one story. Instead, we built an experience that allowed every visitor to find their own. A simplified information architecture, clearer user journeys and stronger calls to action helped connect emergency care with community support, while a flexible CMS gave the charity the freedom to manage campaigns, patient stories, news and fundraising activity from one central platform. Accessibility and mobile performance were considered from the outset, ensuring vital information was always within easy reach.
Impact
The new website established a digital home that reflects the scale and professionalism of Thames Valley Air Ambulance’s work, while supporting the charity’s ambitions as an independent healthcare provider. It provides a stronger foundation for fundraising, education, volunteering and patient engagement, bringing together multiple services within one cohesive experience.
Since launch, the platform has continued to evolve with the charity, supporting new initiatives such as the interactive Mission Map and wider public engagement campaigns. More importantly, it gives supporters, patients and the wider community a clearer understanding of the impact their involvement can have on saving lives.
